Psychology Practicum Training Program At Cambridge Health Alliance
The Psychology Practicum Training Program at the Cambridge Health
Alliance offers advanced-practicum training for advanced graduate
students in psychology. Practicum trainees are eligible for appointment
as a Clinical Fellow at the Harvard Medical School, which provides
the appointee with access to university libraries, athletic facilities,
and other benefits. All practicum placements require 20 hours per
week, with the exception of the inpatient placements (Child Assessment
Unit and Adolescent Assessment Unit) which require 24 hours per
week, and the testing practicum which requires 14 hours per week.
All trainees receive three weeks of vacation. The practicum begins
September 1, and runs through June 30. Positions are unpaid.
How the Practicum is Structured
At Cambridge Health Alliance, the education of psychologists occurs
in multidisciplinary settings. All trainees share a dual responsibility
to the Psychology Division and to their placement sites, and report
to the Psychology Division Training Directors as well as to their
Site Director and Team leaders. Each site maintains specific seminars
that address the particular treatment modality within which patients
are treated in the respective setting. A core seminar for all practicum
trainees is led by the Director of the Psychology Practicum Training
Program (Dr. Conklin). The Director of Psychology (Dr. Leary) also
attends these seminars when possible. Opportunities for psychology
testing are required for some sites and optional for others.
