MEET
DR. WERTHEIMER
Michael D. Wertheimer,
MD, FACS, Director of the Cambridge Breast Center, is a prominent
surgeon and breast disease expert who has provided high quality
care to the women of Massachusetts for more than two decades.
As founder and
director of the UMass-Memorial Comprehensive Breast Center in Worcester,
MA, Dr. Wertheimer has developed
a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach in the management
of breast disease and breast cancer.
Today, Dr. Wertheimer
is developing a new program at Cambridge Health Alliance using the
same patient-focused philosophy of care.
Dr. Wertheimer
is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
and completed his surgical residency at Beth Israel Hospital and
the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Wertheimer has
been professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at University
of Massachusetts Medical School and Director of the Comprehensive
Breast Center at UMass Memorial Healthcare for more than 20 years.
Dr. Wertheimer is certified by the American Board of Surgery and
is a member of numerous professional societies. His academic range
includes
a passion for teaching and he also served as Assistant Dean for
Student Affairs at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
In this role Dr. Wertheimer has imbued future generations of clinicians
with his sound philosophy that is genuinely patient-centered.
Over the last
several years, this academic leader and researcher has published
in many journals and lectured internationally. He remains current
in this vital field by participating in professional societies such
as the Massachusetts Medical Society, New England Surgical Society,
Society for Surgical Oncology, Association of Academic Surgeons,
American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Breast
Surgeons.

MEET BLAKE
CADY, MD
Cambridge Health
Alliance is pleased to announce that Blake Cady, MD, a distinguished
breast cancer surgeon, has joined the staff of its Cambridge Breast
Center and Department of Surgery. He will see patients both the
Cambridge campus and the Breast Center satellite office at the CHA
Whidden campus in Everett, MA.
Dr. Cady is
a graduate of Amherst College and Cornell University Medical College.
He has worked at the Lahey Clinic and New England Deaconess Hospital
and has served as Director of the Breast Center at both Women and
Infants Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital, in Providence, RI.
Dr. Cady is
known nationally as a leader in the field of Breast Health. Over
the course of his career, he has served as president
of the New England Cancer Society, the New England Surgical Society,
The Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Association of Endocrine
Surgeons, The Boston Surgical Society and the Massachusetts Division
of the American Cancer Society.
He also served for eight years on the national board of the American
Cancer Society.
Over his career,
Dr. Cady has received many awards for his efforts including the
Annual Distinguished Service Award of the American Cancer Society,
the annual Heritage Award of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the
Annual Inspiration Award of the National Consortium of Breast Centers,
The Annual Cancer Lecture from the Commission on Cancer of the American
College of Surgeons, the annual Hayes Martin Lectureship of the
Society of Head and Neck Surgeons, as well as the Lemuel Shattuck
Medal of the Massachusetts Public Health Association and the Henry
Chadwick Medal of the Massachusetts Thoracic Society, the latter
two for his efforts in tobacco control in Massachusetts. He is also
the author of over 300 articles, book chapters, commentaries and
editorials on surgery and oncology.

MEET DENISE
LANDRIGAN, ANP
Denise J. Landrigan,
M.S.N., A.N.P. has been with Cambridge Health Alliance since 1997.
She graduated from the MGH Institute
of Health Professions with a concentration in women’s health.
She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
Over the past
8 years, Denise has played an important role in the Alliance’s primary
care network, working both at Cambridge Family Health and the East
Cambridge Health Center, two of the busiest medical practices in
the region. In this capacity, she helped diagnose and treat patients
with a wide variety of health problems.
Today, Denise
is proud to help women at the new Breast Center.
In addition to working as a nurse practitioner, Denise is the center’s
point person, triaging patients, coordinating referrals, and making
sure women get the care they expect and deserve.
