Meet Our Team of Excellent OB/GYN Physicians!
Kathleen Harney, MD
Chief, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Medical School: Tufts University School of Medicine
Residency: Tufts/New England Medical Center
Additional Training: Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology
I chose the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology because I liked the combination of surgery and primary care for women. The first baby I ever delivered was at the Cambridge Hospital as a medical student over 20 years ago - and after that I was hooked on the specialty. I feel it is an honor to become part of the lives of the women I care for. I am always impressed by the strength and resiliency of women in the face of illness.
Being the Chief of an active department such as OB/GYN keeps me pretty busy, but in my spare time I enjoy traveling to France with my family, and martial arts.
Bob Berry, MD
Medical School: University of Virginia
Residency: Tufts University Affiliated Hospitals
I was drawn to medicine because I wanted to make a difference. As an OB/GYN, I have had the privilege of caring for women and their families and hearing amazing stories in the process. Being present at a delivery makes you part of the family story – and that has never gotten old.
Outside of my professional life, the most important people are my wife and three sons. In my free time, I enjoy long walks with our two adopted greyhounds, traveling with my family, photography, and theater.
Patricia Chaudhuri, MD
Medical School: Tufts University School of Medicine
Residency: St. Margaret's Hospital for Women
Working as an OB/GYN physician is a great job because I get to interact with my patients. I like working with women because I can relate to them and have the opportunity to make a significant difference in their lives.
When I'm not at work, I enjoy pursuing my passion for horseback riding.
Sarah Crane, MD
Medical School: University of Missouri
Residency: Boston City Hospital/BU Medical School
Additional Training: Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology
I was strongly attracted to the field of OB/GYN because I wanted to have an impact on the lives of women and their families. The potential for long term relationships with patients through their child bearing years and beyond is particularly gratifying. I enjoy interacting with patients during the uniquely joyous and vulnerable experience of giving birth. I also like helping women through gynecological transitions such as peri-menopause.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my three children, cheering them on at school and sports. I love to exercise (most days) and spend time by the ocean. I also love to read and am a bit of a news junkie.
Davina Franco, MD
Medical School: University of Texas, Southwestern
Residency: Washington Hospital Center
I decided to specialize in OB/GYN because it is a field that allows me to help women and encourage them to be healthy. I like that I see a wide variety of patients with different needs. As an OB/GYN, I can provide care in the office or in the operating room doing surgery. I am always amazed to find that most women have a great sense of humor regardless of what may be happening in their lives. My job also gives me the opportunity to teach physicians-in-training.
Outside of work I enjoy watercolor painting, reading, and travel. I am also learning to play the guitar.
Marianne Muchura, MD
Medical School: University of Connecticut School of Medicine
Residency: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Additional Training: Information Fellow - Maternal Concept Lab/Partners in Health
I became an OB/GYN physician because I believe women should receive good, quality healthcare and need to be empowered to safeguard their health. The desire to improve women’s health led to my passion for the field of OB/GYN.
In OB/GYN, more than any other field of medicine, patients come to their doctor with their most personal and intimate concerns at the most vulnerable points of their lives. Trust is one of the most important factors in this relationship and I do not take this responsibility lightly. The most important thing to me is to make sure my patients feel valued, safe, and understood.
When I am not working I love to travel. I am working on improving my Spanish and French and I am learning Portuguese. I also enjoy reading, dancing, swimming, spinning, and great food.
Jennifer Retsinas, MD, MPH
Medical School: Dartmouth-Brown Program in Medicine
Residency: Women & Infants Hospital
Additional Training: MPH, Harvard School of Public Health
I enjoy being an OB/GYN physician because I get to care for women in many different settings - the office, labor & delivery, and the operating room. I've had the opportunity to care for women of different cultures while working with the Indian Service at the Tohono O'Odham Nation in Arizona, and with the Alaska Native Medical Center. That has been a powerful and influential experience. I like that my job gives me an opportunity to advocate for the women I see in my practice.
In my free time I enjoy participating in family-related activities.
Tara Singh, MD
Medical School: Faculty of Medicine, University of Dalhousie, Nova Scotia, Canada
Residency: University of British Columbia
I became an OB/GYN doctor because I like the breadth of the specialty - being able to treat women of all ages from childhood to post-menopause. I also enjoy that as an OB/GYN, I can practice both medicine and surgery. Women are often the glue that holds families together but many women put their own needs last. I am delighted to be able to put women's needs first, showing them how important it is to remain healthy. I especially appreciate the uniqueness of my CHA patients; I am learning to speak some Portuguese and Spanish, and I'm using my French to increase my Creole vocabulary!
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my two young children. I also enjoy reading, running, figure skating and skiing - and have a black belt in taekwondo.
Magdi Soliman, MD
Medical School: Alexandria University
I knew in my first year of medical school that I wanted to do OB/GYN. It is such a great mix of medical experiences, and often happy expectations. It is also both rewarding and overwhelming to see the babies you deliver grow up and become your patients (or patients' partners). I am especially gratified to work with such a diverse patient population as can be found in Cambridge and the surrounding areas.
In my free time I enjoy traveling to warm islands and spending time on Cape Cod in the summer.
Art Spector, MD
Medical School: Duke University School of Medicine
Residency: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Being an OB/GYN doctor is the ideal profession for me - I'm able to work with patients who are highly motivated and interested in their own healthcare and treatment options. I feel very comfortable around women patients and appreciate the feeling of trust and confidence they place in me. I get to go home every day feeling like I've helped some people, and done some good.
I've been sailing for 50 years, flying for 35. I also enjoy riding and fixing-up motorcycles, skiing, and windsurfing. I've made myself useful around the house as an amateur carpenter, plumber, mechanic, painter and electrician. My wife and I enjoy visiting (and spoiling) our 3 grandchildren spread across the continent.
Merielle Stephens, MD
Medical School: SUNY Stony Brook
Residency: Vanderbilt Medical Center
I enjoy working in OB/GYN because I get to work with women in need of acute care, surgery, and ongoing outpatient primary care. I like helping women during important and life-changing times and I find it very rewarding when I can get women to talk about concerns they are afraid to share with others.
Outside of work I love to cook and find new restaurants to try. I also like to run, hike, knit and read.
Miriam Goldfarb, MD
Medical School: Tufts University School of Medicine
Residency: UMass Medical Center
Dr. Goldfarb is the OB/GYN Laborist on the Maternity Suite at Cambridge Hospital. She provides care for patients while they are in-hospital laboring and on the post-partum unit.
