Additional InformationI am a primary care physician at our Cambridge Family Health and Cambridge Family Health North sites.
Being interested in families, I chose Internal Medicine and Pediatrics as my specialty areas. I have a particular interest in adolescent medicine and in helping children with complex medical problems who are in “transition” between a pediatrician and an adult internist.
I love learning from parents about how their children are growing and developing a sense of self. It is so exciting to be the “doctor” in a child’s life and help define for them how to interact with a professional. I focus almost entirely on the child’s experience in my office and invite them to partner with me in identifying what would make their health better. In doing so, I have been taught much about what children prioritize and how I can respect their needs.
Being a doctor is like being able to live many lives all at once. The pediatric side of my practice allows me to know and watch grow many more children than I could ever have in my own family. Although it is sometimes hard to watch a young child struggle with medical problems, special needs, or social challenges - the rewards of actively participating along with my care team make this job the best in the business.
Outside of work, like many in the department I am an avid bicyclist. My bicycle is my primary means of transportation. My most interesting experiences on my bicycle usually occur when my son is on the “ride-behind” third wheel and scolds other bicyclists for not having helmets. They take it with a good sense of humor, but it’s good to know that bicycle and pedestrian safety is something important to my family.
