Cambridge Health Alliance's Chief of Geriatrics Anne Fabiny, MD, Wins Harvard Teaching Award
Posted Date: 5/19/2011

Cambridge, MA...Anne Fabiny, MD, Chief of Geriatrics at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), has been awarded the Harvard Medical School (HMS) 2011 Charles McCabe Faculty Prize for Excellence in Teaching. Since 1982, this honor has been bestowed on HMS's most outstanding teachers, a highly select group of the School's leading medical educators.

Dr. Fabiny was recognized for her role with the HMS-Cambridge Integrated Clerkship, for which she serves as Associate Director. Launched in 2004, the Clerkship is a complete redesign of the principal clinical year in medical school that serves as a model for clinical education reform nationally and internationally. It fosters students' learning through close and continuous contact with patients through all phases of diagnosis and treatment, all services, through any hospitalizations, and including follow-up after discharge. The award-winning program emphasizes whole patient care and promotes ideals of professionalism and connection with patients.

A clinician-educator who is deeply committed to providing students with meaningful, evidence-based education in the care of older adults in a variety of settings, Dr. Fabiny is also co-director of the Harvard Medical School/Reynolds Foundation Award Advancement of Geriatrics Education Project. She completed her residency training in family medicine at the University of Wisconsin and her fellowship in geriatrics at Harvard. She served as the geriatrics fellowship director and director of geriatrics education at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston before coming to CHA in 2006.

Dr. Fabiny was honored at the HMS Teaching Awards Celebration on Monday, May 9, at the TMEC Walter Amphitheatre.
