Cambridge, Mass. - Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) has upgraded its Computed Tomography
(CT) equipment to enhance patient safety and improve imaging. The CT
units at the Cambridge and Whidden Hospital campuses now have GE ASiR
dose reduction technology, which minimizes radiation exposure to
patients and staff, as well as other advanced applications that improve
cardiac and vascular tests.
 “With
this new technology in place, we are able to improve the diagnosis of
health issues and our interventions while reducing radiation,” says
Chief of Radiology Carol Hulka, MD. “The advanced software constantly
adjusts the radiation dose during the CT scan to expose patients to the
minimum amount of radiation necessary to provide the best images.
Studies show that the radiation dose is reduced up to 40% with no
adverse effects to the image quality. So this is a win-win for our
patients.”
Cambridge Health Alliance’s Department of
Radiology is recognized by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for
its high standards. In addition to having national CT accreditation, it
has also achieved ACR accreditation for Ultrasound and is a national ACR Center of Excellence for Breast Imaging.
