CHA Victims of Violence Staff Present at Conference in Jordan
Posted Date: 11/15/2013

Barbara Hamm, Psy.D, director of Cambridge Health Alliance’s Victims of Violence Program (VoV) and Holly Aldrich, LICSW, director of the VoV’s Center for Homicide Bereavement, were invited speakers at the 2nd Annual International Conference on Transgenerational Trauma: Communal Wounds and Victim Identities, which took place in Amman, Jordan, from October 16-19. The conference was sponsored jointly by the Common Bond Institute, the University of Jordan, the International Humanistic Psychology Association, and the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association.

Barbara and Holly presented on their work at CHA, focusing on the unique aspects of helping both homicide survivors and those suffering from war and politically motivated traumas. Included in the presentation was a focus on the role of the arts and collaborative art-making in counteracting the transmission of victim identities across generations. Presenters and participants in this conference were primarily from war-torn countries in the Middle East.

The Common Bond Institute is a U.S.-based international NGO that focuses on increasing skills and services to promote a culture of peace. The Victims of Violence Program is a nationally recognized outpatient trauma clinic that develops comprehensive mental health services for crime victims and crime victimized communities.
