Yoga Event to Support Wellness at Cambridge Health Alliance
Posted Date: 3/28/2013
Cambridge, Mass. – On Saturday, April 6th, a volunteer group of graduates of Rolf Gates’ 500-hour advanced yoga teacher training program will lead a fundraising event called YogaCHA at Boston University’s Case Center. The day-long program will support yoga and wellness programs at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), a Harvard-affiliated healthcare system that serves Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-north communities.

YogaCHA will feature yoga classes for the whole family, an evening concert with nationally renowned kirtan artist Girish, and a dharma talk with acclaimed yoga author and teacher Rolf Gates. Funds raised through YogaCHA will help CHA provide opportunities for its community to participate in yoga, meditation, and wellness programs, supporting CHA’s mission to improve the health of the community. Classes will be available to patients, doctors, and hospital staff to bring about mind-body wellness and health.

“I see patients with musculoskeletal problems every day, and medications or surgery are not always the answer to their issues,” said Mercedes Von Deck, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at CHA who is helping to spearhead the event. “Yoga helps treat the whole patient and can bring each and every person to a better level of fitness and health.”
