Three OB/GYN Providers Join Cambridge Health Alliance and Expand Access to Care in Cambridge
Posted Date: 11/1/2012
Cambridge, Mass. — Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced the addition of three providers to its OB/GYN team in Cambridge:  OB/GYN physicians Bob Berry, MD, and Marianne Muchura, MD, and midwife Kathryn Rowan, CNM.

Dr. Bob Berry brings to CHA over 20 years of experience at major teaching hospitals in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including an extensive administrative background. He has also received numerous awards honoring his excellence in teaching and training new doctors and staff. He most recently served as an attending physician in the Department of OB/GYN at Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. Dr. Berry graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency at Tufts University Affiliated Hospitals. He will see patients at both Cambridge Women’s Health, located at the Cambridge Hospital campus, and the East Cambridge Health Center.

After graduating from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Dr. Marianne Muchura completed her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Several stints working with women and children in hospitals in her native East Africa forged her keen interests in the improvement of health systems and access to care in resource-constrained countries. She currently serves as a clinical fellow with the Maternal Concept Lab/Partners in Health, leveraging technology to improve maternal health. She previously researched and developed maternal health guidelines at the World Health Organization’s division of reproductive health. Dr. Muchura, who speaks French, Spanish, and Swahili, will see patients at both Cambridge Women’s Health and the East Cambridge Health Center.

A semester studying abroad in Seville, Spain, spurred Kathryn Rowan to pursue a career as a certified nurse midwife. She recently completed the Yale School of Nursing Midwifery Program where she volunteered as a medical interpreter and women’s group leader at a clinic in New Haven, Conn., and led reproductive health education and advocacy efforts for the city’s underserved communities, including helping create a childbirth education curriculum. Rowan, who is fluent in Spanish and has served as a birth doula in the Boston area, will see patients at both Cambridge Women’s Health and the Cambridge Birth Center, which offers a homelike experience for women and their families who are looking for an alternative to a traditional hospital birth.

Cambridge Health Alliance’s Department of OB/GYN offers prenatal care and maternity services, general gynecology and screenings, and gynecologic surgery. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 617-665-1660.
